I'm quietly excited about this new cooking competition every weeknight at 6pm on SBS, with the Friday's episodes going behind the scenes with the featured restaurant that week. From SBS, I expect this to be a REAL cooking competition, no fake dramas like that other show, cough, cough, currently on air. From memory, it is sort of like the Curtis Stone's series (can't even recalled the name of the show, LOL), or Iron Chef on Food Network where home cooks battle against chefs, but more accessible to home cooks at home.
As far as I can gather, every week 4 home cooks cook against chefs from a restaurant that showcases their particular cuisine. The 4 (?) chefs each week are from the ascending position of each restaurant, e.g. apprentice, line cook, station chef, sous chef or executive chef. Not sure how each episode works yet, but my guess is they cook against the lowest rank professional-cook/chef on Monday, maybe the worst dish eliminated (or with point-scored accumulation), then against the next level chef up on Tuesday, and so on until it ends with a winner on Thursday?
Each week will celebrate a different restaurant and cuisine, the first week is Vietnamese cuisine (featuring chefs' line from Vietnamese restaurant, Dandelion), other cuisines in coming weeks in alphabetical order will be African, Chinese, French, Greek, Indian, Italian, Japanese, Lebanese, Mexican, Spanish, Thai, and Turkish, all together 13 cuisines, so 13 weeks of competition.
The 3 judges are Dan Hong (chef whom we should all be familiar with from MCA), Mark Olive (chef/native ingredient expert), and Melissa Leong (food writer), with host Maeve O’Meara.
So, are you excited?
